TCF Announces 2010 Shannon St. John Fellowship

Triangle Community Foundation is seeking a Fellow to work 20 hours per week from September 2010 to May 2011. The Shannon St. John Fellowship will provide valuable fundraising experience for a student with a demonstrated interest in the public sector in North Carolina. This year the Fellow will work closely with the development team to help create new charitable funds and raise money for TCF community programs. The Fellow will benefit from the staff’s extensive knowledge of community needs, donor engagement, fundraising, and planned giving. Duties include assisting with research, grantwriting, data entry, online and print materials, sponsorships, and general office support. The Fellow will have the opportunity to present project results in written or oral reports and will be encouraged to participate in meetings, events, and other activities throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program. Preference will be given to candidates studying public administration, public policy, nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field and to candidates with 1-3 years of experience working in the public sector as an employee or board member. The Fellowship will require a commitment of 20 hours per week during business hours for 25 weeks between September 2010 and May 2011, and the total stipend will be $5,000.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • strong analytical and communication skills
  • personal initiative and the willingness to work independently and as a team player
  • the ability to manage multiple projects
  • an interest in fundraising, prior experience at any level is desirable, but not required
  • good computer skills - familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel required, knowledge of fundraising databases preferred
