The statement of purpose of Alamance Community College includes the following goals:

To provide traditional and nontraditional educational opportunities through a variety of delivery methods to those individuals desiring such services.

To provide vocational, technical and general education designed to prepare individuals for employment in industry, business, and service occupations through certificates, diplomas, and the Associate in Applied Science degree.

To provide freshman and sophomore level general education courses which are transferable to other colleges and universities through the Associate in Arts and the Associate in Science degrees.

To provide short-term, concentrated instruction designed to help individuals improve their occupational credentials, upgrade job-related and academic skills, and enhance their abilities to function as productive human beings.

To provide qualified individuals with an opportunity to obtain well-planned and professionally supervised work experience.

To provide literacy instruction for those who qualify for the services. Literacy encompasses Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult High School, Compensatory Education, General Educational Development (GED), and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.

To cooperate with local and regional economic development efforts in maintaining, developing, and recruiting business and industry.

To provide specific, job-oriented training for new, existing, and expanding industries and businesses.

To provide opportunities for the pursuit of social, cultural, and personal interests through programs which are varied and responsive to individual and community needs.

To collaborate with local and statewide educational communities to enhance the delivery of education and services across institutions and systems.

To serve as an educational center for the community by providing physical facilities, library and information services, resources, and speakers.

To provide student support services designed to assist students in making academic, career, and personal decisions.

These goals will be addressed in a learning environment where continuous improvement is expected and planned.
