Camp Kesem North Carolina

Camp Kesem North Carolina is a free one week, sleep-away summer camp for the children of cancer patients.

Camp is free of charge because the families of these children already have an immense financial burden. In addition to treatment costs, there are also the emotional and physical effects of cancer. CKNC serves these families free of charge, providing the children of cancer victims an incredible experience without adding to the financial concerns of their families. Campers benefit from a stress-free, entertaining week spent with peers who understand the pressures of cancer. And while the kids are off having a blast, parents who are coping with this disease receive the gift of a week for themselves.

Camp is coordinated and staffed by student volunteers from Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Professional Support counselors from the Duke University Medical Center’s Cancer Patient Support Program and registered nurses from the University of North Carolina Hospital and Duke University Medical Center also volunteer to help make camp happen each year.
