School Seeks Funds for New Playground Equipment

February 4, 2009

There is new play equipment in the Old North Durham Park. The equipment was donated to the City for the Park by the Central Park School for Children which is located adjacent to the Park. The equipment will be used by students at the School, by neighborhood children and anyone else who enjoys the OND Park.

CPSC raised the money for the equipment over a two year period. They received a matching grant from DOST, Durham Open Space and Trails Commission for $31,000 and matched that grant with funds from CPSC’s annual Strawberry Festival, Strawberry Festival sponsors, and gifts from CPSC families and friends.

Strawberry Festival sponsors whose contributions made the equipment possible include Durham Parks and Recreation, Durham Credo, Guglhupt Café, Mechanics and Farmers Bank, New Horizons, The Change, The Herald-Sun, The Independent Weekly, Traditional Neighborhood Development Partners, LLC, TROSA, Whole Food Market, Acme Plumbing and Heating, Greenfire Development, Haywood, Denny & Miller, LLP, Measurement Incorporated, Shimar Recycling, Stone Bros. & Byrd, The Appliance Center, Streuver Brothers, Trinity Partners, Zapolski & Rudd and Wachovia Bank.

Bob Chapman who managed the installation for CPSC said, “It has been a tremendous community effort and the children are so excited.”
