Real Change from Spare Change

April 20, 2009

Real Change from Spare Change is a community-wide, collaborative initiative designed to educate, encourage, and empower Chapel Hill and Carrboro citizens, and the UNC community to evoke real change for those in need. Real Change from Spare Change is committed to raising funds to support the street outreach work that is currently being done in Orange County and educate the community on the issues of homelessness and panhandling.

The Real Change from Spare Change financial goal is to raise $70,000 annually. The funds will supplement a grant from the Project for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness program (PATH)

Funds will support the Orange County street outreach program that began in the spring of 2007. Outreach workers help clients get medical attention, mental health services, navigate 'the system' for all human services needs and get into a healthier life style. Funds will also support community education to continue to teach people that there is a better way to help those in need in our community.
