Addition of Visual Arts Events to CVNC.org website

CVNC has developed a loyal following throughout North Carolina as the print media has reduced its coverage of the arts. Even today, as we complete this request, we have learned of more cuts to the arts staff in our local newspaper. For many small community groups, coverage is almost nonexistent.

In our first ten years, CVNC has been committed to covering performing arts events. In our second decade we will expand our disciplines by adding visual arts events. This request for $5,000.00 will allow us to

• Make the necessary additions to the CVNC.org website for unique requirements for visual arts
• Build a foundation with professionals in the visual arts field just as we have done with the other disciplines we cover.
• Increase staff hours to manage the increased work

This broad discipline currently receives relatively little coverage in the print media. We now have a calendar system that will facilitate this expansion, but populating it with event information - openings and such - will require additional resources. We will begin by including visual arts events in our calendars. As support grows, we expect to contract with writers in this field so that we may include reviews of visual art events, thus following the successful expansion pattern we have used in other disciplines - calendar items first, then reviews and features. When we begin to include reviews, we will engage writers knowledgeable in all aspects of visual arts.
