Conservation Trust for North Carolina – Articles

The Conservation Trust for North Carolina (CTNC) is a non-profit organization that protects North Carolina’s land and water resources through statewide conservation and cooperative work with local land trusts, to ensure a high quality of life for all North Carolinians. Our objective is to accelerate the pace of land conservation in our state and to make sure that land protection efforts are of the highest quality. We fulfill our objective through two roles: as a statewide service provider to 24 local land trusts, and as a land trust that directly protects properties, mostly along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

In 1996, the Governor’s Year of the Mountains Commission appointed CTNC to assume leadership in protecting the Blue Ridge Parkway’s natural and scenic corridor. We are the only conservation organization dedicated to working with the National Park Service to identify and conserve high priority properties along the Parkway that contain pristine waters, spectacular views, healthy wildlife habitat and historic trails. We have protected more than 30,000 acres along the Parkway by working closely with willing landowners, other land trusts, government agencies and private funders.

CTNC is also the only statewide conservation organization that works with other land trusts and conservation groups, governments and public agencies, and private landowners to accelerate conservation projects at the local level. We work at the Legislature to increase conservation program funding and expand tax incentives for landowners to protect their land; provide local land trusts with emergency loans from our revolving loan fund; and manage state, federal and local government grants that enable local land trusts to protect more priority lands in their communities.
