Conservation Trust Shares Conservation Tips with Minority Landowners
February 25, 2009
The Conservation Trust, along with the Black Family Land Trust, helped minority landowners explore ways to protect their farms and forests at a two-day conference in Raleigh.
CTNC also co-sponsored the banquet and reception at the sixth annual N.C. Minority Landowners and Farmers Conference held Feb. 13-14. The event was attended by hundreds of landowners from across North Carolina and surrounding states, with workshops ranging from innovative crops and farming techniques to conservation options for working lands and farm financial management.
The latter two subjects crossed at a CTNC-sponsored workshop on conservation options and tools, which can help agricultural landowners save money through tax deductions and credits. Rusty Painter, land protection director for CTNC (second from left in photo at right), was joined on the panel by (l-r) Orange County farmer Joe Thompson; Dannette Sharpley, interim executive director of the Black Family Land Trust; and Jay Smith of Cape Fear Farm Credit.
CTNC staff and board members including Victor Harris, publisher of Minority Landowner magazine joined conference guests Friday evening at the banquet and reception sponsored by the Conservation Trust and Farm Credit Associations of North Carolina.
