Eyes Ears Nose and Paws

Eyes Ears Nose and Paws partners people with dogs to improve lives. We train and places assistance dogs to work with individuals with disabilities.

Our programs create a healthier community by increasing independence for individuals with disabling medical conditions, improving opportunities for individual control over medical care, and providing therapeutic interventions that improve physical and mental health.

We are based in Carrboro, NC and are the only Diabetic Assistance Dog provider and one of only four Service Dog providers in North Carolina, and the only organization providing either of these resources in the Triangle area.

Our Service Dog program partners trained dogs with individuals with mobility impairments, such as quadriplegia or Multiple Sclerosis. These dogs are trained to assist with a wide variety of daily tasks, including retrieving items, opening doors, operating buttons and switches, and helping prevent and recover from falls.

The Diabetic Assistance Dog program provides dogs which are trained to detect and alert their human companions to fluctuations in blood sugar, to retrieve medical kits, and to seek outside assistance if necessary, including using a specially designed phone to dial a previously designated number for help. The dogs are trained to use their impressive sense of smell to detect rapid changes in blood sugar levels, preventing hypoglycemic comas and helping diabetic individuals to better regulate blood sugar levels, promoting improvements in both short- and long-term health.
