First In Families of North Carolina – Opportunities

First In Families of North Carolina helps people with disabilities and their families to believe in their dreams, achieve their goals and give back to others.

FIFNC is a private not-for-profit NC corporation whose governing board consists of a majority of people with developmental disabilities or their family members. FIFNC was incorporated in 2000 and obtained its 501(c)3 status in 2003.

Guiding Principles
Customer Leadership
People with disabilities and/or their families are the experts regarding their own goals and dreams and are respected as such by everyone.

Diversity of Leadership
Organizational leadership includes people from across NC with diverse backgrounds, experiences and knowledge, including those with disabilities.

Equality
People with disabilities have the same rights, responsibilities and opportunities to contribute and participate as all other members of the community.

Interdependence
All people, including people with disabilities, depend on each other.

Partnerships
People with disabilities live in inclusive communities that are enhanced by collaborative relationships and leveraging of community resources.

Giving Back
Everyone, including people with disabilities and/or their families; has the ability and desire to make meaningful contributions to others.
