HABITAT OF DURHAM DEDICATES NEW HOME MAY 15
Durham, NC – At 12 noon on Friday, May 15, Habitat for Humanity of Durham and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) will dedicate a new home for the Ksor family in Southwest Central Durham.
The home, at 1109 Jackson Street, is made possible with support from AICPA. Habitat for Humanity and the AICPA enjoy a rewarding partnership, said Anthony J. Pugliese, AICPA senior vice president finance, membership and operations and the senior executive in the organization’s Durham office. Our employees demonstrated incredible enthusiasm for this project through their fund-raising efforts and participation in Habitat build days. It’s a genuine privilege to see a family benefit first hand from Habitat’s important work.
The Ksors, a Montagnard family, are refugees from Vietnam. The Montagnards of Vietnam's Central Highlands are not Vietnamese by culture. Montagnards fought with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and are persecuted by the Communist Vietnam government at traitors. Habitat of Durham has worked with five Montagnard families over the past three years. Families come to the Triangle with support from Lutheran Family Services and local congregations mentor families through the resettlement process.
Habitat of Durham has built 21 homes in Southwest Central Durham in the last three years and continues to partner with Self-Help, the Durham Community Land Trustees, the City of Durham and Duke University in community-led redevelopment.
Habitat for Humanity of Durham transforms lives and communities by making homeownership possible in partnership with people who care. Habitat has broken ground on more than 200 homes in Durham since 1985. Families are selected based on housing need, ability to repay the loan in full and willingness to partner with Habitat. The 1500 U.S. Habitat affiliates believe decent housing is a matter of conscience and action. Habitat for Humanity International works in 90 countries and since 1976 has provided nearly 2 million people with safe, decent, affordable homes.
