Teach a Child to Read: Therapy Dogs and Volunteers Needed to Read with Children & Work in Healthcare Settings
August 25, 2010
Would you love to work with your dog/pet and help give children a bright future? Helping Paws International, founded & headquartered in N.C., is looking for certified therapy dog/pet teams to join our read with a dog literacy program called B.A.R.K.S. (Bonding Animals, Reading, Kids, & Safety) and to work in our healthcare facilities.
Children in B.A.R.K.S. increase their reading test scores an average of 1-3 grade levels/year while also building self-esteem, confidence, social & emotional development, and academic success. They also improve learning & inter-personal communication problems and learn the humane treatment animals. Our teams are trained, certified, and insured. B.A.R.K.S. classes start the 2nd week of September 2010 for this school year.
Helping Paws also provides certification classes for non-certified teams. In addition to B.A.R.K.S., we have other therapy dog opportunities in care facilities, hospitals, hospice, etc. For more information, contact Isis at HelpingPaws@gmail.com, http://www.helpingpawsintl.org/, http://www.meetup.com/BARKSHP/
