Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Art Therapy Project

Bridget Pemberton-Smith, ATR-BC is thrilled to be developing an art therapy program for the pediatric department of Hematology/Oncology at UNC Chapel Hill. Bridget’s father, Campbell McMillan, was instrumental in the establishment of this department and it brings Bridget great joy to be carrying on his legacy in her own way by bringing art to children with cancer and blood disorders. One of the main focuses of this program is using the Apple iPad with the children being treated in the department. The Apple iPad is a great way to do art with children who have cancer because it is very easy to keep clean and easily transported. This program has already started, thanks to a grant from the Mary Claire Satterly Foundation. Additional funding will be used to continue to develop the program, providing staff support and art materials and will insure that the program will continue, hopefully, for years to come.
