Assisting Refugees new to USA

March 17, 2009

LFS relocates refugees from around the world. These people need help with basic skills we take for granted. Volunteers would help teach refugees how to use the public transportation system, go grocery shopping, use food stamps, fill out required paperwork, access healthcare, and other tasks. This opportunity will help them acclimate to being a citizen in the US with the intent that they will learn and be self sufficient. We also need help in the office with some basic paperwork as well, checking Craigslist for item we may use to help furnish refugees in thier new home. This is a flexible time requirement, put as little or as much time as you would like. One person does not need to do all the above aspects of the opportunity. The address is the office address, but refugees are located throughout Wake and Orange counties. Contact Diane at diane.upshaw@lfscarolinas.org for more information.
