Relationship Building And Intimacy Focus Of Next Rape Crisis Center Group

Walter Storholt Reporting

CHAPEL HILL - The Orange County Rape Crisis Center is set to host a new type of support group starting next month.

"We’re offering a support group for adult female survivors of sexual violence," says Development and Marketing Director Allyson Cullin. "This is a special focus group because we’ll be focusing a lot on healthy sexuality and intimacy to help survivors explore those topics and issues after they’ve experienced trauma."

The new group starts on February 22nd, but the Rape Crisis Center would like to have people register within the next week or two.

Cullin says it’s easy to get signed up. Either call or email the Center and go through a screening process.

"We can talk to people about whether or not this would be a good fit for them and what the group would be like," says Cullin. "We can give them a good idea of what to expect."

The Center’s Krista Park Berry says the idea for the group came from feedback they received from program participants in other groups.

"They’ve done a lot of work in lots of areas, but still find it challenging to feel comfortable or assertive in their relationships and even feel confidence in being intimate with somebody," says Berry. "This is based on individual feedback that people are looking to talk more in depth about relationship building and intimacy."

For more information about the program, call the Rape Crisis Center or email them at groups@oc.rcc.org.
