Teacher Characteristics and Student Achievement: Evidence from Teach For America

A new Harvard study finds Teach For America’s selection model is successfully identifying individuals who will have a positive impact on student achievement in their first year of teaching. As Education Week notes, the study concludes these findings are a sign that it's possible to recruit candidates who are more likely to have an edge in the classroom. This study is groundbreaking because it is among the first to detect a relationship between observable teacher characteristics and student success.
