In 2008, we served more people than in 2007 - what will 2009 bring?

February 9, 2009

We are asking ourselves - what will this year bring, and when will the news of layoffs end? We know we'll serve many more people than the previous year, requests for assistance are up 35%. Many of the individuals coming to us now have never had to ask for assistance before. It is humbling for them and us. We are thankful we've been able to meet their needs by being fiscally conservative, preparing for times like this, and, the key component - partnering with our generous donor friends. But we also know that with Wake County still growing, it's 50% bigger than just 10 years ago, we expect this demand on services to continue even in a good economy

Know that The Salvation Army of Wake County plans to continue to touch as many lives as we can through our Social Ministries department (Soup Kitchen, Women's & Children's Shelter, financial assistance for heat and rent, etc.).

Normally, during the span of a year, The Salvation Army of Wake County serves more than 90,000 local individuals through our daily soup kitchen, Clothing Closet, Food Pantry, Financial Assistance, Seasonal Programs, Disaster/Emergency Response Programs and Women and Children's Shelter. We are always preparing for the additional demands on our services and are mindful that
we have only achieved this because of your support - thank you!

We are Changing Lives and Doing The Most Good - thank you for being a part of this!
